How much time today day did you give yourself to think about your
needs? Your health? Take a moment...think hard...when was it? An
hour? 20 minutes? A few seconds?
When did you give yourself a break or take a deep breath in to
feel a bit more aware and alive?
I ask myself these questions:
Did I assume my present circumstances would always be the same?
Did I think I would live forever?
Was I just waiting for another opportunity to do what I love or
feel the way I think I should only to realize that I just thought
about it and didn't actually do it?
When I think of all the moments of life I have spent
doing...well...really nothing... it makes me ponder a bit about
what the heck I was actually doing! Each day, practice clearing
and opening, because all to often we get in the way of ourselves
and time escapes.
Time will get wasted and opportunities will go by if we keep with
the same habits and patterns. Getting time back means retraining
the approach of everyday living. Understanding how to recognizing
habits that are wasting time can be an important step to taming
our patterns. Daily habits can be our guide to tuning into what
is taking up our time in the first place.
Time becomes consumed when actions are not performed with
awareness.
Get Organized:
Create a habit of becoming clean and orderly.
Yes, that means going through your stuff with a fine tooth comb
and eliminating what isn't necessary. Please, I mean how many
pens do you need to have in drawer (I had over 30) when you know
half of them are dry to a bone. When we eliminate excess from our
daily surroundings we free up stale and stuck energy and make way
for productive projects.
affirmation: When I let go of excess, I find more physical room
to open to clarity.
Identify passions:
Once organized, take the time to identify passions. If you don't
have a particular passion, think about what really interests you.
How can you contribute to the world in a good way? Once you
identify what it is then create a way to express it.
Meaning...make the re identified passion a new (daily) habit.
Incorporate it within your day any way you can. Your time will be
spent by being saturated in mini-passions during the day. A new
habit is born. Time is well spent and earned.
Create space not waste
Creating space to practice is the most important aspect of
getting your time back. Remember time becomes consumed when
actions are not performed with awareness. When I look back at how
much time I wasted shifting items around my home and not being
clear about my passions and ideas I wanted to execute, when I
could have been deep into my practice...well it amazes me.
Create a space where lifestyle works for you. Limit the
distractions and wasted space that comes with unawareness. Look
around and see what can be done to eliminate the wastefulness of
consistent (important word) unproductive time. What habits limit
us from moving forward? What habits keep us from seeing how to
open?
Move through awareness
Granted, not ever moment will be blessed with awareness...the
idea is becoming consistently mindfully aware of what we are
doing. Get it? It's the practice of learning how to become aware
of our actions, and thoughts even in the midst of distraction.
Pay attention to all actions: Where are you spending the most
time during the day? Is it in idle chatter, gossip, surfing the
endless waves of the web? Are you putting your passions to use?
Are you being creative? Pay attention and learn from the places
that don't serve and are just wasting time.
Good Intentions: Nothing helps more then realizing life is a
beautiful service to others. The knowledge created by
understanding ourselves by learning to live productively and
happily only creates more waves of good and inspiration for
others. Let your work be for good. Honest good. All actions
create ripples of inspiration or frustration. Even mundane
actions can be performed with attention and gratitude that will
ultimately influence others.
It's all in your mind.
